More About Our Watches

Lions Head watches are designed for an active lifestyle. We wanted a watch that could surf or run with us in the morning and then go straight to the office, so we built one. Our speciality is in custom-made dials, including brushed or patinated brass and other more exotic materials.

Our watches are built using Seiko-made NH family, automatic movements - durable, mechanical, with hacking and hand-winding. We then regulate each movement for more precise time-keeping.

All of our watch cases include a screw-down crown for increased water-resistance, so you can truly take them anywhere.

Any Questions?

What is a mechanical watch?

A mechanical watch is powered by a spring, rather than a battery. Our movements are automatic, meaning they wind power into the mainspring as you move your body.

They also include the option to hand-wind the movement, for pick-up and go convenience. 'Hacking' refers to the ability to stop the second hand when setting the time.

Our movements are rated with a 40 hour power reserve. This means that if you take it off, it should still be ticking for approximately 40 hours.

What is a regulated mechanical movement?

When our movements arrive from the Seiko factory (SII) they are rated within a 45 second per day accuracy, meaning they can either lose or gain up to 45 seconds per day. We then regulate the movement, through careful adjustment of the balance spring, to achieve better accuracy, approximately 5 seconds per day.

Due to the physics involved, this figure can vary depending on how the watch is worn, whether it is subjected to magnetic fields and how close to service intervals it is.

Why Nato-style straps?

These straps are durable, washable, comfortable to wear and lighter than a metal bracelet. A watch designed to be worn in an active lifestyle needs a strap to match and we believe these are the best fit for that ethos.

Their design means that if a springbar comes out (the little pins that hold the strap), the watch will stay on your wrist.

They can also be changed without any tools, allowing you to change the look of your watch instantly.

What does 'water resistant' mean?

Our watches need to go anywhere and that includes into water. We use cases with a system of screw-down crowns and casebacks, with rubber gaskets. The water resistance of these cases is reliant on the crown and caseback being screwed down correctly.

Only a watch-maker should open the caseback of your watch but the crown is unscrewed whenever the time or date is adjusted. Please make sure the crown is screwed back down completely before going near water.
